yeah pretty much. at least one of the very few. and band meaning a group that consists of more than one person.
'62-'72 for sure. anything after exile on main st. i'm not a fan of (except maybe like one or two songs.) if all someone really knows from the stones are the 'hits' then they're missing out on the best part of it all. they've had a couple different sounds- all great. even their pop music in the mid sixties was obviously rooted in the blues and fabulous. and their move into the real country blues sound of let it bleed and exile on main st. ahh, the best. (in the 70's when they started with the disco sound a la 'miss you' is when they lost me for sure.) their various sounds have always remained part of one cohesive sound at the same time though. impressive. to reinvent but in a way that you're not changing it all completely.
not to mention that the richards/jagger songwriting team is great. keith is brilliant.. and mick jagger is by far, in my opinion, the most entertaining front man ever. he can dance and entertain like no one else. his moves are a little too fruity for me these days.. but i guess that's what happens when you're 65.
check out the movie 'gimme shelter' (about the altamont craziness) or any old performance footage on youtube. there's a clip from a performance of midnight rambler in the early 70s on youtube that is to die for. sorry i just blabbed on forever. i'll stop.

i've been pretty out of the movie loop, so this helped me think of some exciting movie releases (provided by B. Alan Thomas. thanks, B!)
