2. i An imaginary number--come on, who doesn't love that idea?
3. 0 The denial of 0 kept the greeks from discovering calculus--that's pretty impressive.
4. 1 From which all integers arise!
5. e Euler's constant; comes up in unexpected places.

Pi doesn't get a mention in the top five, because pi is overrated!

I would have agreed at some point, but i is just weird and crazy. Totally conceptual, doesn't signify anything physical (or merely the lack of anything physical). I'm all about numbers that can't be used on a tax form!
