open the pod bay door, HAL.
so my apartment here is fully furnished. i even have a super washing machine/drier thing. it happens to be outside on the balcony, where it is freezing cold. the other day, i decided it was time to do laundry. i started fairly early, figuring i could let the machine do its business while i watched buffy. the washing process took about an hour, and then i hit dry. i wasn't sure if it was a heated dry, but i couldn't figure out how to do anything but select "dry", so i did so, and left to watch buffy.
about an hour later, i was ready to go to bed. i figured the clothes were probably dry enough, but i didn't want to leave them outside on the balcony. but i couldn't open the door. it just wouldn't open. i turned the machine off. no luck. started it, stopped it. no luck. i killed power to it. no luck. i felt around for some switch i was supposed to release. no luck. so, i decided to give up, make sure they'd be dry when the cycle stopped, and go to sleep. i started it on another hour long dry cycle.
i woke up around 12 when my iPhone beeped because it lost power. turns out the fuse blew. no big deal.
the next morning, i needed my clothes. but the door wouldn't open, because the dry cycle never completed (because the fuse blew). so i started the cycle, again, and made it only take 15 minutes (minimum). at last, i could open the door!
anyway, the situation reminded me of space odyssey, 2001, so i drew this:
