microsoft webmail
...sucks.
since entering the business world, i've been cursed with the need to use microsoft email products. when i'm at work, it's not horrible. the search algorithm is awful, and the key commands are wretched. if only google took over the world sooner.
what bugs me the most about my need to use microsucks email apps is webmail. i'm sure you've all used it at some point in your lives; i had to use it at school when i didn't have my mac handy.
there is no search. there is no ability to "flag" or "unflag". the navigation is non-existent. you can't change settings unless you're using IE. there's no smart search (so you have to type in the whole address or search individually, rather than typing the beginning and having it make suggestions like every other mail app on the planet). you have to manually refresh. you can't recall messages (an issue which pertains greatly to the following).
several times, i've needed to write important emails after hours, thus requiring webmail. a week or so ago, i wrote the whole email (maybe an hour?), and when i hit send, it decided that my session had timed out without telling me, and my email was gone.
i knew this time not to be so foolish. i used google docs to draft my email, and then copied and pasted it over into webmail. but i forgot to copy/paste the subject heading. so i just sent out an email to ten or so of the more important people in the company with a blank subject heading.
kudos to bill on his retirement, but i hope yahoo makes microsoft pay $150bil so microsoft goes bankrupt and withers away, making linux or mac the new standard.

No kidding. I have gotten used to it after 5 years at CC, but that doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
Can you route everything through GMail via POP or IMAP? I don't do that but I did set it up so I can send mail from my coloradocollege.edu account via my gmail login. The problem there is that I don't seem to have a copy of the sent message except in Gmail.

i've thought about it, but i need it to sync with my exchange server. i've tried to set up IMAP through our server (as i am an IT guy), but it's a bit difficult to do remotely here in china. i've got POP access, but i don't want to mix it with my personal mailboxes. sigh. i may end up just doing that.
