a blog for the ages
okay, this one is good. talk about the adventures i've been having, well, this is probably the best story i will ever tell.
as most of you know, i've been stuck here in vietnam about five days longer than planned. i was sent here to set up part of our network and do random little tasks. all told, if no problems, maybe two solid days of work. but there were problems. big problems.
the circuit inexplicably went down for a few hours. so i couldn't do any work.
we opened up a ticket with verizon to fix it. circuit came back up. success! i can leave monday as planned.
the circuit, again, inexplicably went down for a few hours. so i could do any work.
we opened up a ticket with verizon, again, to fix it. circuit came back up. success! i can leave wednesday.
once again. only this time for way too long. i guess i'll leave friday, just to be safe.
so now it's thursday morning. i've been here way longer than planned, mainly because there's nothing i can do while the circuit's down, but i can't leave until i've done all i need to.
this is a big problem. even without regard to my trip here, if the circuit goes down for 3-6 hours twice a day, that's not a circuit. that's not good. so i called verizon and started getting a little upset (it doesn't help that there's a 2 second delay, weak signal, and shotty connection on the phone). he told me that the local phone company said someone here (at the company) had instructed them to turn off the circuit. we're not using it, they said, so we can save money until we are.
i couldn't believe it. so i didn't.
the circuit came back up, so i figured the problem was, at least temporarily, solved. i can do work again. hopefully finish by the end of the day.
so good ol' roomie from back in houston came in to tell me he was having some problems. earlier, he couldn't access the network. i explained to him that it was because the circuit was down, but now no problem. he then told me that he kept getting phone calls about the circuit, and wasn't sure why they kept turning it back on without telling him. i almost blew up. i'm about to blow up.
five days. five long days. maybe 50 hours in the last three days. ugh.
