the ninth of march
[30 second dream rule begins... now]
last night i had a dream that the president of my company, the reason i have this job, came to china for a bit. he asked me out to dinner to chat and such. it didn't take long for him to get down to business.
peter, he said, we want to send you some place different. we think you could do great things where you're going. now, before you agree, i need to make sure you understand the terms. you'll leave on the afternoon of march ninth. you'll be there for exactly one year. no more, no less. after your year is up, you should be set to do whatever you please, with no need for work. that's my offer.
i thought about it for a while. made me think about priceline, that evil website that sells you the cheapest airline tickets in a day, and you need to confirm before they tell you when the flight is.
okay, boss. i'm in.
i figured i could take my iPhone, my computer, and my girlfriend. what have i got to lose? note also, that, in my dream, march ninth was only a few weeks away. i'd have time only to see my family/friends beforehand, pack up my things, and take off.
so, my friends. you'll be the first to know. on march ninth, for exactly one year, i'll be going to mars on business.
[note: for those of you who know my mom/dad's story about that guy in high school who went to mars, this is somehow completely different. so try to forget about it. i only realized how similar they were this afternoon]
