fishbowl reunion '08
despite all the doubt, in my head and in others', the fishbowl crew met, from as far as the other side of the planet, for a few solid days of reunion happiness. though not all of us were able to see all the others, the number of those who made the effort, especially those coming from ohio, was astounding. kudos, friends, for that.
for me, the weekend began early saturday morning, with a slight hangover and a 5 hours' night sleep. after the denver airport had lost and found my (and everyone else's) luggage, i saw bright red prius approach from so far away, and whatever emotions i had invested in hatred for the american flying association quickly turned into excitement for the days to come. along to greet me was Benji!, Keri, a pack of gobstoppers, sweedish fish, and sour patch kids. what a welcome!
getting out of denver, somehow, proved to be a nearly impossible task. we spent a good chunk of the afternoon in leeland driving around picking katelin and blair up before heading southbound to the last four years of my life.
holy moly was it great to see everyone. Benji!, Keri, katelin (the fishbowl crew), Poppy, The Fool, swabie scabbie, and Poppy's suitor. we went to phantom canyon, number four on my top five places of food and beverage, and had some great food and great beer. man did it feel good to be, in kate's words, back in my old haunts.
we played some fun games in keri's halfth floor, where i started laughing about something not that funny until i started to cry ("i'll just... cirsumvent... mother"), and Benji! did the same about a comment i should probably not post here.
after a while, we moved outside into the tent we'd set up, and stayed up chatting until around 3. since i'm a compernolle, i opted for good sleep rather than further hours of chatting in a tent, so i went inside and slept (interchangeably with lying awake dreaming of all the ways i could punt the neighbor's dogs across the state of colorado).
sadly, the next afternoon, half the crew had to leave. but kate arrived! those who were still in town went to meet holly at il vicino's and then to see the dark knight. another night of going to sleep at 3, but what's the point of sleeping at times like this?!
Poppy had to leave monday, so we all made the best of our time together before she had to take off. kate and i spent some time playing othello downtown before watching what we could of ¡Three Amigos!, brought to an early stop due to the lac of sleep in the preceding days.
tuesday, Benji!, kate and i went to montague's, number 2 on my top five places of food and beverage, to chat, relax, and get a kick of caffeine.
kate and i went to adam's mountain cafe, big ol' number 1 on my top five places of food and beverage, had a great time, and then went to the broadmoor for drinks at the penrose room. it was strange being there, as the entire staff had changed, and i was treated with the same bullshit enthusiasm that we were forced to use as waiters there. kind of disappointing, but the drinks were good, the company better, and i got to wear my three piece suit!
today was one day i've been looking forward to for some time. Benji! Keri and i just hung out. just like the old times. we didn't do a lot (though we did go to adam's for breakfast lunch!). we watched a movie, at some cookies, geeked for a few hours. it was great. it made it all the more difficult to say farewell when they dropped me off (an hour ago) up here in golden.
and so, thus ends the fishbowl reunion '08.
it was great to see all of you, and i hope it doesn't take so long for it to happen again. and maybe next time, the rest of you can come too!
for now, i'm in golden, co, getting excited about Jeremy's wedding! wooo!
[update: i'm an idiot. we do have a picture of nearly all of us. you can see it here]
comments:
i'm pretty bummed we didn't get a big picture. and even though there was no time when everyone was there, we could have worked some photoshop magic...
put that on the list for next time, benj
