ecological footprint
after being in the states for this past week or so, i've realized how much people don't realize what we're doing to the environment. i'm not gonna get real political or bring up any statistics. just that americans drive way too much, and, in my opinion, are making no effort to change that, but rather an effort to make their driving habits have less of an impact. people in china, on the other hand, seem to kind of disregard the whole idea. like, for example, printing over 500 reams of paper just because they want to document item numbers and current prices.
[note: these are stereotypes. you are all very good at this stuff, so i'm not blaming you.]
anyway, the point of all of this is that i took an ecological footprint quiz. if everyone lived like me, we'd need 1.18 earths.
based on their recommendations for how i could be a better hippy, it seems like most of that badness is because i fly to the other side of the world once or twice a year, which takes a lot of gas. i also buy a lot of stuff, and, because i don't like wasting electronics (or retiring them), i don't recycle them. i don't throw them out, but the question was if i recycled it. i also buy polyester pants instead of hemp.
anyway, i'd suggest you take the quiz and at least see how you're doing.
and TAKE THE SUBWAY! and if your city doesn't have one, take the bus! and if no bus, get a bike! and if you can't bike, carpool! and if you carpool, only take necessary trips! and if you live in a completely unwalkable area, move to a walkable one!
