american cell phone providers (part III)
so, as you all know, i have an iphone. in fact, i have a new 3G iphone, which i purchased (legitimately) two weeks ago. i signed a contract and everything!
and, as some of ou may already know, neither apple nor AT&T let you leave the store with an iPhone unless you sign a contract and activate in store. note my use of the word 'activation' (i used it).
so this morning, right before lunch, i got a call from AT&T. we're just calling to let you know that your account has been flagged.
what.
it was all from your data usage.
hmm. AT&T normally charges about $.01/kb. i've used well over 180MB, which means that, if there's some mixup, i owe them at least $1,843.20.
you don't have an iiiPhone, do you?
i hated the way she said iiiiiPhone. yes, i do. and i also have the unlimited data plan. your people [note my lack of profanity] wouldn't let me leave the store without it.
well you don't have it. in fact, our records show that you don't even have an iPhone.
what?! you mean i signed this expensive contract which i will soon break for nothing?!
so, a few hours later, i got the charges taken off. turns out i didn't have any sort of plan, practically. no data, no texts, no voicemail. i have 200 minutes of phone, and that's it. and somehow i have a copy of the signed contract, with account info an all, saying that i have all the iPhone stuff.
turns out the bill was more like $2,500. and after my upsettedness, it got whittled down to under $70.
i hate american cell phone service providers.
comments:
word to that. having to work with at&t during this iphone madness has been a nightmare. although i'm pretty sure they're saying the same thing about us. "you don't have an iiiiiiphone, do you?"
