bad apple

i'm not sure if you guys are aware of this, but i kind of like apple products. kind of a lot. in fact, a lot of people ask me if apple pays me to talk about it so much.

anyway, one thing about being in the mac cult is accepting that some features other people have, you don't. but you take this fact being well aware that the functions you have are far better and rarely have issues. i usually say that apple stuff have 90% the functions that the like windows stuff has, but at least 60% of windows' functions have enormous problems. thus, for me, it's not even something i think twice about.

this level of quality also means that if apple does something i disagree with, i usually assume there's a reason for it. likewise, if apple tells me not to do something, i trust that they know way more than me.

what throws me off, however, is this:

right now, i have four devices made by apple that play my music. apple elegantly syncs these four devices with great ease, and tracks how often i listen to what songs, etc. there's a neato little website that takes this information and stores it for future analysis. this is a really neat tool. (someone else tried to do this using different methods. because of lack of user-end development, however, that project was retired.)

if you look at my last.fm page, you may notice that there is no data for about two weeks. hmm. i was only using two of my devices during that time. interesting.

of these four devices, three are 100% up to apple standards and approval (computer, iPod, iPhone 3G). the black sheep (iPhone 2G), i've "unlocked" and "jailbroken" using third-party tools. this means that it inherently can break apple's rules (like running apps in the background).

of these four devices, two (iPod/iPhone 3G) have not successfully tracked the music i've been listening to via last.fm. the black sheep has tracked every single song without fail.

Saulemander, i fully expect you to have a blast with this post. so don't hold back.

note that this is not directly apple's fault by any means. it's due to the software provided by last.fm (i've also tried third party software with the same results). i just assume it's got to be because of rules that apple sets on their mobile (or portable) devices. i'm a little bugged.
