woah! fibonacci is so cool!

so. as you all know, the fibonacci sequence is as follows: 0, 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, 34, 55, etc, such that any number in the sequnece is the sum of the previous two, starting with 0, 1. (for those of you who don't know, the ratio of any number in the sequence to the one prior approaches phi as the numbers grow larger). if you take the simple fraction 1/89, see what cool stuff happens. first, 1/89 = .01123595505617977528.

the decimals are all fibonacci numbers arranged such that the first fibonacci number is in the first decimal place, the second number in the second decimal (hundredths) place, etc. you simplay add each of the decimals together and you get 1/89! woah!

   numbers:  .001
             .0002
             .00003
             .000005
             .0000008
             .00000013
             .000000021
             .0000000034
                 etc.
            ----------------
             .01123595505618...  =  1/89


so basically, fibonacci is one of the coolest guys ever, and his sequence, though he didn't know anything about it, as his death came rather soon, is truly amazing. yay for math!

A website was saying it isn't that hard to prove. I didn't read the proof, but can't think of a way to do it. can either of you?

I know what I'll be doing this morning. (I wonder if it has to do with the successive ratio of each number, or possibly induction? Yeah--I think I'll try induction for awhile.)
