sick
so i guess this is what happens when you don't knock on wood, step on a crack, walk under a ladder, or brag about never having gotten sick in southeast asia.
when i went to southern china a few years back, i didn't get sick. well, i mean i never got some weird bug or nasty food poisoning. hangover sick from too much baijiu doesn't count.
when i went to thailand and cambodia with stefan, i never got sick. in fact, stefan got super ill the day after i left, but i walked away without any problems.
i've been living here in china, going to vietnam and hong kong and korea every now and then. except for once when i drank some bad water in vietnam (resulting in thirty seconds of discomfort) or when i ate a whole melon in china because i was hungry and felt nasty (but who wouldn't after eating a whole melon?), i've never gotten sick in asia.
before i came here for work, everyone told me to take this pill and that pill just in case. i never thought it was necessary.
my folks are here this week (which is awesome!), which of course means i'm very busy and excited and very active. we've been having a great time. we were even joking about me taking a sick day this week so we'd have a full day to hang out.
then, last night around 4:30am, i woke up, feeling horrible. i went to work thinking all of the nasty shit in my intestines had been flushed out (it must have!). lasted about two hours and couldn't do it anymore. i came home today to sleep. and boy! did i sleep.
i still feel kinda crappy, so i'll probably have to take tomorrow off for real. which is a drag. of course i'd get sick the only time when my folks are here. gah. sucks.
i guess jade may protect you from getting hit by a bus, but it didn't seem to protect my intestines.

get well soon, peter!
