smart friends
i wonder what it was like growing up in greenwich village in the 50's, where everyone was [or seemed] so creative.
sometimes i kinda feel like we've got our own little greenwich going on, except from all over the world, and in all sorts of ways. i think a lot of it has to do with the fact that we're all (mostly) scholars and geeks, and generally value academia.
i also think a lot has to do with the internet. think about it. back in the day, for you to have heard of, say, bob dylan, you'd need to be in the right place. where it was all "happenin". but now, it's so easy to be in a zillion places at once! (i'm writing a simple mindless blog in hangzhou china, and google tells me that people from 17 countries read it)
for example. Paul, klcomp and i got a bit sick last week. so i wanted to take some antibiotics. i don't need a prescription here in china, so i just walked in and described my symptoms. they gave me some weird stuff, and i was a bit nervous about it. so what did i do?
i asked Lizerbeam of course!
so, in a matter of a few hours, i was in touch with an almost-doctor, even though she's halfway around the world in arkansas. it was that easy!
i think it's great that the 15 or so of us who come to peterdot regularly are all pretty good at so many different things.
so yay for being at the center of where it's all happening!

Yay for being friends with the center of where it's all happening! Does this mean that the happening will rub off on me a little bit? I hope so!
