travel story (part IV)

really. something is trying to tell me not to come back here.

i made it to hong kong last night as a night-long layover before coming here. it worked out well-- it allowed me to get here early, while still having most of my weekend for un-work stuff. i went out for dinner with hk maggie, and then drinks with her and hk stanley. it was a good night.

i made it home around 1, still pretty drunk from celebrating the existence of belgian beer and french pinots. stayed up for a bit trying to sober up, catching up on some work emails and writing a few of my own. my hotel room was incredible; the hotel i always stay at finally opened up their second tower. i was on the 49th floor, floor to ceiling windows, and the night was clear.

i set three alarms, afraid that i'd be too zonked out to care about getting out of bed.

i had some crazy awesome dreams (i've been having great dreams lately. daisy tells me that chinese people would say my dreams are a sign i'm not sleeping well; i think it's a sign that my life is great, and i love every minute). woke up to house of cards and a bad taste in my mouth at 6:07am. i couldn't believe how much i wanted to sleep.

i had made a reservation for the hotel airport shuttle bus (the MTR doesn't start til a bit later, and i wanted to sleep without worry). i went downstairs to catch it, and the girl said it was canceled. sweet. so they know how to take the reservation; they just can't hold the reservation.

no problem. i took the MTR, and got to the airport way sooner than i would have (silly cars!).

i went up to the cathay pacific booth and handed them my passport. "i'm sorry. you don't have a ticket".

hmm. interesting. i thought i flew to hong kong yesterday as leg 1 of my journey, but maybe i was hallucinating.

i went to the dragon air booth, as my previous flight was with dragon air. "i'm sorry. you don't have a ticket. the only ticket in our system was for september."

hmm. that's really interesting. i could have sworn i was on a plane yesterday, which, i'm convinced, was after september.

so after about an hour of jumping from booth to booth, calling our china office, calling the secretary who bought the tickets, etc, it turns out the tickets were for later tonight. their computers only search for a few hours in advance (and as far back as september...).

i managed to change my tickets, and got on the right plane after all. so it wasn't bad. but come on, shuffle god! give me a break!

it turns out the travel agent our china office uses goofed up. even though the e-ticket he sent me said this morning at 9, he meant tonight at 6:40. typo, i guess.
