surprise!

so we were all pretty bummed that maggie33 wasn't gonna be able to make it to chicago for christmas. korea is a long way, and she wasn't able to get the time off work.

as a pitiful alternative, we had set up a skype "date" to video chat on christmas eve. the date was set for 4:00pm, as it was right when she was waking up, and before she went to work.

4:30 rolled around and she wasn't showing up on skype. being compernolles, we all grumbled a bit, as we were all getting antsy to get starting on dinner and so forth.

then 5:00.

then 6:00.

we decided to start watching 'it's a wonderful life'. around the time george promised to lasso the moon, the doorbell rang. my mom went to get it, as the rest of us tend to assume (usually correctly, though always lazily) that whoever is at the door is there to see my mom.

from the other side of the house, we heard my mom shriek. "whaaaa?! whaaaaa?! whaaaa?!" about fifty times. i figured it was her friend's weird haircut or something down those lines.

then nellie said "i think it's maggie". knowing maggie's tried these little surprises in the past, it didn't seem too far out. i got up and ran to the door.

sure enough, there's maggie33!!

so, for the first time in over a year and a half, all seven of us ( Paul, klcomp, maggie33, nellie, Will, The Invincible Blab, and me) are on one continent, in one country, one time zone, one city, under one roof.
