strange days

so the last few days/weeks have been pretty unusual.

it all started sometime early last week when all of the bosses came. our new factory has been in use for a few weeks, but the grand opening was this past monday (mar 2), so bosses from all over the place came to town for the celebration. every night was some big fancy dinner. i love eating, and i love eating fancy food. but i also love not needing to put on a "show" 24 hours a day. i was exhausted. meetings all the time, people running into my office saying they needed something set up that would normally require at least a day, but they needed it five minutes ago. a lot of that kind of stuff.

i had to go into the office on sunday for a bunch of sales meetings. perhaps that doesn't sound as weird as it really was. sales meetings. the boss suggested i go so i learn more about the company. frankly, it was very beneficial, and i'm glad i was invited. i learned a lot about the company that i probably should have already known. so i feel a bit more confident about this and that. if it hadn't lasted nine hours without a break, i probably would have been very happy about it.

then i found out on tuesday that one of my previous employers killed his wife, kid, then himself, only a few blocks from my home in wilmette. i always knew he was kind of a kooky guy and had a strange past. then the chicago sun times told me his "strange past" actually involved murdering his first wife and pleading insanity ("intermittent explosive disorder") because he gets inexplicably angry sometimes.

it's rained for a solid 24 days, and isn't expected to clear up in the next week or so. apparently, this is coming close to the record set in 1973 of 40 days in hangzhou. it's weird. depressing. and cold.

and i just found out a few minutes ago that daisy got her visa to go to the states! which is fantastic! congrats, daze!

so things are finally moving back to normal. daisy will come back to work tomorrow, the bosses are all gone. it still may be raining, but i feel relaxed again. now i can finally spend some more time chatting with all of you, programming, hanging out with daisy, and all in all just enjoying life here. seems like it's been a while since i've done any of those things.

so hooray for things being kind of normal again! (and for daisy getting her visa!)

Saulemander | March 7 @ 1:27pm
