safari 4

i know i'm very opinionated, and for that, i won't blame you for disregarding this post. if you use windows, you can also disregard this post. or you can read it and be jealous.

so with the big apple keynote yesterday, they announced the release of safari 4, the newest version of apple's own web browser.

to begin, i should say that i've been a very loyal user of camino, the apple specific version of firefox. it's an app that is clearly developed for macs, rather than firefox or opera, which feel like a windows app. additionally, camino, like firefox, is an open source project, which means they don't charge for anything. they make most of their money from google (and we all know google doesn't charge for anything! well, almost everything).

more importantly, camino and firefox support web standards, unlike some evil browsers.

anyway, i downloaded the new version of safari (download) and gave it a whirl.

i can't believe how fast this browser is. it renders pages like they're on your local machine, and apparently stores a lot in a local cache (it must! it's so fast!). it's got some neat bells and whistles which i don't much care about (they use a coverflow type app for browsing your history). safari also loads up your keychain in such a way that is far more sophisticated way than any browser i've ever used.

i suggest you try it out.

Yeah, I made the switch a while back. I loved Camino but I can't use it or Firefox anymore. I need the speed!

Google Chrome is fast enough, but they still have more work to do there.

looks like these are all on windows... I'm sure it's a world apart for mac. maybe I'll run my own tests. or maybe I'll try chrome...

Chrome on the Mac isn't ready for the prime time. But it feels very fast too. I can't wait for a real release!

i've just kinda jumped onto chrome, because firefox was killing me...for some reason imdb was notoriously slow on firefox. even though i love the awesome bar on firefox, chrome seems ok for now.

why can't one browser have it all...and chrome is kinda being a memory hog...
