the end of an era: the thoughts of a college grad

funny. this post wasn't inspired by the fact that i've graduated from college (!) and have a whole world ahead of me. instead, it was inspired by the fact that my watch batteries died. so now, for the first time since the last day with gwynne in germany back in 2005 when i set my watch to the departure of our train, i don't know what the true time in the world is. weird thought, being so disconnected from the rest of the world. yet simultaneously, i'm actually part of the "rest of the world," seeing as how i now have a full time job, and will for more than a mere summer. but more on that later...

as a sidenote, i've also been working on a website for jim davis, aspiring artist and brilliant illustrator. so far, i think it's going quite well. will is also commissioning me to write a website for his creation, the lounge. and my friend's step-dad offered me a job in china writing software for some huge company next year. so booyah. a computer science degree can get you more than a job as a busser (excuse me, i meant to say mid-server).

and, back to being a graduate. today i slept in while most people i know either went back to school or work at school. it was strange being in a different situation than everyone i'm surrounded by. but how exciting to be making money rather than burning it! and except for my bills, expensive tastes, love of good wine, movies, music, and food, and my broken-and-needs-to-be-replaced iPod, my slowly breaking phone, my broken snes controller, rent, utilities, the trip i'm planning with stefan to europe, and that quarter i dropped the other day in the sewer, i'm actually saving the money i'm making!

note: as a graduate, i don't intend to have any sort of affair with any of my parents' friends, though i have deeply considered going into the plastics industry.
