if only apple made phones...

...oh wait. apple does make phones. i just can't get one for quite a while.

so i've stumbled upon this nasty situation and i'm not sure what to do. my phone is seeing its last days. this morning i tried to call a friend of mine, and i overheard two strangers conversing before i heard the phone ring twice and then was connected with the colo spgs post office. then i called a few more times and got connected to the post office. and then every time i got a phone call it would ring and then immediately say i got a missed call. and every time i make a call, it says the call failed, even though i have perfect reception. which brings me to my dilemma. this was something i had considered a while back, though i had decided to hold off on anything until i secure my china plans and know what i'll be doing in the future. i had decided not to spend any more money on a phone until after all that (including an iPhone, which i could get in june). but now my phone is broken. i need to get a new phone.

so. with the iPhone, i need to have cingular. i'm with t-mobile now, but not bound to any contract, so i could switch to cingular. if i switch, i need to sign at least a 1-year contract. but this will give me a nice phone for free, and then i could buy an iPhone when i decided they had their bugs worked out and i had some money. or i could stick with t-mobile, use my discount for a new phone (not free, but cheap), costing me about $50-$100 and a 1-year contract (meaning no iPhone for two years). but if i join cingular, i'll also have to deal with making the switch, pay the one time activation fee (which is the biggest load of horse boogers i've ever heard of), and investigate their services. and from what i've seen, cingular is a bit more expensive.

anyway, i'm not thrilled about this. sorry about the rant. i'm just not sure what to do, and i need to act relatively fast, or i don't have a phone. so if i don't answer your calls, don't take it personally. just send me an email.

Are you _sure_ you couldn't hold out until June? I mean, is the Post Office really that bad? But seriously, giving it some time for the bugs to get out is a good idea with anything new.

if you're still not sure, i say get a cingular pay-as-you-go phone. could add up/ be quite costly, but, as you know, cingular isn't good about freezing plans and isn't accomodating to altering contracts (i've learned the hard way). that's my advice. keep me posted, brosephine

i have a website where you buy someone's contract for awhile (cheap)til you can buy a new phone and a new contract. would that be appropriate in your situation? it's a bummer, pete

yeah the iphone is nice, but the more i look at the more i notice there are and will be better phones out come june. just like everything else apple makes...there always is a better.

pete i have a phone you can use until you figure out what you want to do, and it's t-mobile so your sim card and service will work fine with it. let me know if you want it, i am not using it.

so the iPhone won't be released, according to some guy at cingular, until december. so that changes things even more. my phone is doing okay, dropping probably one out of three calls. but that's tolerable. i just hope it can last a bit longer...
