souled

earlier today i was asked a question. a simple question that i'd like to ask all of you:

if someone approached you, a normal looking person, reasonably attractive, personable, not creepy, and offered you $100,000 in cash for your soul, would you take the money?

at first i said no way. bart simpson sold his soul to milhouse for $5 and almost immediately regretted it (well, he had to buy a grow-when-wet dinosaur to realize how much he missed it). granted, that was only $5, but still. but the more i thought about it, the more unsure i became. i don't want to step on any religious toes here, but i admit that i believe that when you die, you die. i like the idea of reincarnation, but merely as an idea. i've never really bought into the heaven/hell thing. and, as stefan clearly stated, i'm not sure that whatever "soul" you may have is disconnected from your physical being. yet i must say too that i'd feel pretty stupid if i sold my soul and then realize that i'd be soul-less or feel empty or dead or miserable or anything. but really, i probably would. not because my soul is worth less than $100,000, but because anyone who thinks he can have my soul, real or not, deserves to lose $100,000.

I'm trying to imagine what that situation would be like. I think I would be entirely creeped out by someone who was asking for my soul. I'm not sure where I stand as far as what a soul is, but I do believe that if it does exist, it's not the type of thing that can be bought or sold even if it is separate from the body. Basically, I'd probably accept the money even if I would be creeped out. Although, maybe accepting that much money for doing nothing makes you loose a bit of what might be considered your soul. I doubt that anyone would actually be able to purchase one, but I do believe that excessive money can do bad things to a person. Ideally, let's say I'd take the money and then do something good with it to redeem myself.

hells no.

In short, no. For starters, I don't really see how a person could continue to appear normal, attractive, personable, and non-creepy after offering to buy my soul. But since I think that a soul is really meaningful and could actually be sold, I would never even think about doing it. I mean, seeing as it's your soul, it's literally priceless. How could I practically give away (since no price will ever come anywhere near close to being a fraction of the worth of a soul) the only thing that I truly own?

no

The nuns always told us that's exactly how it would happen.
