the grandness of life

so i've been home for what seems like quite a while since being in colorado. i miss you all, and i miss all i had whilst there. but my time here has been great. i've been able to spend a lot of time with my family, especially with my mom & dad, just shooting the shit and hanging out, something that i've done in the past but generally in short quantities. this has been nice, feeling that, even if i know i'm leaving soon, there's no time limit. it's been great.

what's more is that ryan came to visit on his motorcycle adventure. he's thus far hit some 36 states, and plans to reach all 49 on this continent by the end of his voyage. we had some nice times talking about computers, our future plans, our past (as we've not seen each other in quite some time), and doing it all over either a nice bottle or two of wine or a nice walk in the loop. the other night we went to a great place just of rush street-- a place where ryan claimed had sauce worth returning to chicago for. sure enough, he was right. it was great. we had a great bottle of wine, a wonderful conversation, and a relaxing time after a day full of walking and museuming and so forth. thanks, ryan, for a great time.

and then tonight, my aunt sue took my brother and me out for a graduation dinner. prior to this evening, she referred to the place as being an "upscale mexican place." and that it was. it was great. will and i showed up seven minutes early, so we sat at the bar while i had some wine and we chatted. then sue came and we sat down. we talked about lots of good stuff-- the adventures we plan to embark on in the near or distant future, the origin of the metric system, wine, iPods-- all the stuff that makes life so worth living. and the best part was that the service there received no criticisms from me, something that, after working at the broadmoor, has been rare for me. they filled up my water exactly when i wanted them to, offered me another glass of wine as soon as i finished one, and so forth. the food was great too. all in all, it was a truly wonderful experience. thanks, sue!

anyway, after all this, i decided that i'm never gonna have money because once i do, i spend it on either electronics, travel, or fine dining. but i'm okay with that. i love spending my money on those three things. and on sunday, i head out to san francisco to enjoy the latter two! life is grand!

The Loop! I just learned about that in my book. Have you ever read The Devil in the White City? It makes Chicago sound so awesome/scary.
