a bit of luck
so today i woke up early and left my home at sierra, nick, emily & ingrid's house. i set out for nob hill, my favorite place in the city, to kill a bit of time before getting on a bus to see tyler. the bus goes up north to wine country, specifically to a casino. it's $10, and they give you $25 in casino dollars to gamble away. what a deal. anyway, as i am a compernolle, i like to get to where i need to be way before i need to be there, so i got there about an hour early and happily sipped on coffee & checked my web-stuff. i walked through the park in china town on my way to the bus stop (again, very early), and watched some old men play xiang qi (i felt so at home!). and then i found the bus. long story short (if it's not too late already), the bus was full because it's 7-7-07, which is lucky or something. so i waited for an hour for them to tell me it was full, and they sent me to the offices to buy a ticket for the 3:00pm bus (4 hours later). sure enough, every bus today and tomorrow is cancelled. sweet, pete. way to plan ahead.
anyway, so i was trying to figure out what the hell i was supposed to do. and as i was half considering just ditching the whole thing and staying in the city a few more nights, i started thinking that i'd be screwed. no one i know is here (random weekend vacations that all fell on the same day) until sunday or even monday. and then i thought, "i wish i had nell's car. i should have figured out how to get it from my cousin sarah before." and boom. around the corner is sarah. what are the odds. amazing! so sarah and i walked for a bit and figured out car stuff and meeting up for dinner and a chat later. it was great!
so now i'm waiting in a starbucks where the wireless (no joke) costs $12 per half hour, bumming a free signal from next door. i love this city!
and now, time for some good wine!
[update: july 9, 2007 10:51am] i guess i didn't have much luck. the bus was sold out and every other one was cancelled, so i took a golden gate transit bus 80. the whole endeavor took me about 7 hours. still had a great time. went biking lots, drank some good wine, went swimming in a nice little lake. thanks, tyler and family!
