of elephants and dignitaries

so stefan and i just returned from a two day trek in northern thailand, in a national forest near chiang mai. we went bamboo rafting, which was a lot of fun. we also went for a beautiful hike, which also happened to be extremely hot and humid. it reminded me of that scene in adaptation when the guy went looking for a ghost orchid and got dysentery. it was beautiful. i'm sadly not gonna post any pictures until i get home, but i took some good ones.

last night we slept in a tiny village of probably 40 people. i seem to have a knack for boozing with government officials, and so we did last night. we boozed with the governor of the city, playing games and making jokes. total blast.

this morning we woke up at the crack of dawn (quite literally), because of some stupid cock that crowed every two or three minutes. stefan and i played chess and drank tea before trekking back. then we went riding on elephants! oo yay! i'll post some pictures as soon as i can. it was quite an interesting ride.

tomorrow we're heading back south to bangkok and then to the beaches. we're gonna do a bunch of island hopping and scuba diving and snorkeling and beaching and living it up. oh man am i excited. we hope to head to the monsoon for a night or two to really feel what that means. i can't wait.

i hope all is well back in the states (or korea!). happy monday!
