ahh the beaches

so when i last posted, i was still in chiang mai, a smaller city in northern thailand. i now am on ko samui, a more popular island off the very southern coast. the weather here is unreal, and the beaches are far more brilliant than anyone had ever convinced me of.

getting here was quite the trip: we took a night train from chiang mai back to bangkok, from abuot 4:30pm - 6:45am. we had a lot of time to kill in bangkok but no place to crash, so we went to some huge mall and watched the simpsons movie, drank some coffee, shopped around a bit and then returned to the train station. another night train, from 6:30pm to 7:30am, which, of course, was late, so it arrived around 11:00am, thus making us late for our bus. we then caught the soonest "bus", which was a pickup truck with seats, and traveled about two hours to the pier. then we got on a ferry, which was also about two hours. with a sigh of relief, we thought we had made it. then we rented motorbikes and rode for about an hour before we found the place we were looking for. quite the hike!

we've been here, by now, for about three days. tomorrow we're heading to another island, which, as of 2001, had about 40 residents. now it's up to about 5000 (damn tourism), but hopefully just as beautiful. there are more PADI diving sites on this island than any other place in the world, second only to cairnes, austrailia (yay, katelin!). so we plan on diving a bit, snorkeling a lot, and living it up under the sun (with lots of sun goop, so don't worry, ma). hopefully the trek there won't be quite as strenuous as the last one.

it seems our trip has blown by. i head back for the states in just 12 days. i've been thinking about you all a lot, and hope all is well back in the americas.

yay!
