iSad

as most of you know, i love apple. i love the things they produce, their general attitude, and the cult that accompanies it. i am very proud to consider myself an apple nut.

lately, though, apple has been upsetting me. this iPhone thing has been bothering me a lot. i think it's fairly reasonable that apple is protecting their contract with AT&T, and though i think it's absurd that they have one to begin with, i can only respect that they're doing what they can to uphold their agreement. the third part app thing (that you can't have any other applications on your iPhone) really bothers me. with a device as powerful as the iPhone, i firmly believe that the mac cult should be able to modify their iPhones to make them more powerful. just like computers, if you don't want to, you don't have to. but to make it this difficult and this unsecure is quite bothersome.

i use my iPhone's third party apps more than i use my iPhones native apps. lately, though, my iPhone's been acting weird. it's been hanging on certain screens and even freezing on occasion.

i just went to the apple store today to buy the long anticipated leopard, for which i've been counting down the days. while there, i figured i could ask one of their alleged "geniuses" about my freezing iPhone. i said "my iPhone has been hanging ever since i upgraded to 1.1.1 [a new version]. have you seen issues like this?" the guy was a jerk. "i don't understand." "my iPhone has been freezing on particular screens, especially the iPod and the iTunes wifi music store." "freezing? hanging? i don't understand your verbiage." "look. i hacked my iPhone and this is what's happening. i'll show you." "i cannot give any advice or support for phones that have been hacked." "i'm not looking for support. i'm asking you, as a person, if you've seen problems like this. if you have, then i can look to forums. if not, i'll assume it's because of the hack." he wouldn't help me at all. here i am, a pretty die hard mac guy, being turned away and treated, in my opinion, completely unfairly. i understand he can't support me or my issues. but i was just asking him if this was a common problem.

not to mention that the apple store is now a completely uncomfortable place to be. it takes forever to get anyone's attention, which is absurd because there are a million people wearing silly black shirts.

i'm also not gonna mention the hell of a time i had getting my iPhone before, where all the "geniuses" kept giving me false information.

i still love apple, but they're really making it difficult for me to say they're flawless. i guess i just can't go to the store anymore. i'll have to do everything online, feeling part of the mac community through super cool blogs and websites designed by and for mac geeeks.

[note: i'm aware this is very scattered. i've been planning on writing about my grievances with apple for quite some time, but this jerk face at the apple store pushed me over the limit. i had to vent.]

Oh man, I hate to defend retail...but maybe he really couldn't help you out? I mean, I know you asked him "as a person," but while he's on the clock at Apple, he really can't speak solely as himself. Some stores are extremely strict about that sort of thing...he could get fired. Maybe, just maybe, be open to the fact that he wasn't trying to be a jerk face, and was worried about losing his job. I bet if you saw him outside of work (or when he was on his lunch break), he'd at least have a few words of wisdom. Then again, he's already got a strike against him..."verbiage"...? You have to be some kind of cool to pull off that word, and something tells me he just isn't.

And apparently I don't understand html. At all. So take whatever I say with a grain of salt.

I'm a lifelong Apple bigot, so I sympathize. But I think you want Apple to be something other than what it is: a corporation dedicated to delivering value to its shareholders. Which it has done very well lately. It's not a hacker club.
