1. Mark Rothko look at his stuff and you might not get it, but read about him, and see a rothko in person.. you'll think differently
2. Sally Mann all time fav photographer. and she's from the VA!
3. Robert Rauschenberg no one can collage like this guy
4. Jean-Michel Basquiat nyc in the 80's, yesss. warhol's best bud.
5. Sabrina Ward Harrison representing a current day artist.. second best collagist to rauschenberg

this is way hard to narrow down to five. The following could tie with that last spot: Willem de Kooning, Morris Louis, Helen Frankenthaler, Diane Arbus, Robert Motherwell, and Pollock- not for aesthetics, but for what he did for art in America. well, i'm just a big fan of abstract expressionism.. and what it did for American art. Ones that would never be close to my top five: Ansel Adams, Salvador Dali
